The Franklin Electric FPS-16A is a complete high-capacity 4-inch submersible bore pump and motor assembly designed to deliver substantial water volume in relatively low-head applications.

Suitable for rapid tank filling, large stock-watering systems, irrigation and general rural water transfer, the FPS-16A range has a nominal duty flow of 270 litres per minute.

The 240V two-wire range contains one model. Applications requiring greater pumping head will generally require a higher-powered three-wire single-phase or three-phase FPS-16A configuration.

This model is designed for high-flow applications with relatively low total dynamic head. It must be selected using the complete system requirements—not bore depth or flow rating alone.

Electrical cable must be sized according to the motor, total cable distance, voltage drop and installation conditions. Cable selection and electrical installation must be confirmed by a licensed electrician.

Important Selection Information

Total dynamic head must account for the pumping water level, bore drawdown, vertical elevation, required outlet pressure and friction loss through the pipework, valves and fittings.

The 270 LPM figure identifies the pump family and is not a guaranteed output under every installation condition. This model is intended for high-flow, low-head systems. It may not be suitable for deep pumping levels, steep elevation increases, long restrictive pipelines or applications requiring substantial outlet pressure.

At this flow rate, pipe friction can become severe. The full pipe length and internal diameter must be considered, and the pump’s 2-inch discharge should not be reduced without checking the resulting friction loss.

Where the required total dynamic head exceeds the FPS-16A-06 performance range, a higher-powered three-wire or three-phase pump configuration will be required.
