The Pump Shed Australia

The Franklin BLC Water-Level Probe Relay is a factory-fitted control-panel option that allows compatible Franklin LP2W water-level probes to control or protect a water pump according to the water level in a tank, bore or water source.

The BLC accepts signals from either one or two conductivity probes. Depending on the panel configuration and probe placement, it can be used to stop a pump when the source water falls below a safe level or provide automatic control between selected water levels.

This is not a standalone external controller. The BLC must be ordered as a factory-fitted option inside a compatible Franklin CP1 single-phase or CP3 three-phase control panel.

Key features

  • Factory-fitted water-level probe relay
  • Suitable for one or two Franklin LP2W probes
  • Provides water-level input to the pump-control panel
  • Can be configured for low-level pump protection
  • Can provide single-level or two-level control
  • Suitable for tank, bore and water-source level monitoring
  • Installed and wired inside the selected control panel
  • Compatible with Franklin CP1 and CP3 full control panels

Compatible pumps and applications

The BLC option can be used with pumps controlled by:

  • Franklin CP1 230V single-phase control panels
  • Franklin CP3 415V three-phase control panels
  • Correctly selected Franklin FPS bore pumps
  • Compatible Franklin MH and EVR pumps using a CP1 or CP3 panel
  • Tank-filling systems
  • Bore-water level protection
  • Low-yield bore installations
  • Suction tanks and water-storage systems

The control panel must be correctly sized for the connected pump motor. The BLC does not determine the electrical size of the panel.

Required probes

The BLC requires either one or two compatible Franklin LP2W two-wire stainless-steel water-level probes.

Probe choice depends on the application:

  • One probe: Used where a single water-level switching point is required.
  • Two probes: Used where separate upper and lower water levels are required.

LP2W probes are available separately in cable lengths from 20 metres to 200 metres.

What is included

  • Franklin BLC probe relay
  • Factory installation inside the selected CP1 or CP3 control panel
  • Internal control-panel wiring for the ordered configuration

What is not included

  • CP1 or CP3 control panel
  • LP2W water-level probe
  • Probe cable
  • Water pump
  • Electrical supply wiring
  • External junction boxes or cable glands
  • On-site installation or commissioning

Installation and selection warning

The BLC is a factory-fitted control-panel option and must be ordered with a compatible Franklin CP1 or CP3 full control panel. It should not be ordered as a loose standalone relay or installed without a suitable protective enclosure and correctly designed control circuit.

The number of probes and required control function must be confirmed before the panel is ordered. Probe positioning determines the levels at which the pump starts or stops.

The BLC does not replace the panel’s motor-overload protection and does not directly power the pump. It provides a level-control signal to the control panel.

LP2W conductivity probes must never be subjected to high-voltage insulation or “Megger” testing, as this may damage the probe circuit.

The control panel must be selected to match the pump voltage, phase, motor power and full-load current. Installation, probe wiring and commissioning must be completed by a licensed electrician or qualified pump technician.

Factory-fitted options have an estimated lead time of approximately two to three weeks, subject to Franklin availability.
